A partisan review from a true metalhead . . . - Before I start the review, I want you to know I am neither a hater nor a fanboy. I listen to absolutely everything in extreme metal as long as its quality, and I am disgusted with the ridiculous hostility towards this band by the 12 year olds on this site who think they are being br00tal.WARNING: It will take more then one listen to understand and receive the full effect of this albumJob For A Cowboy s Genesis is not an album full of songs, it is a 30 minute punch in the face. This record was developed as a concept album not just lyrically, but MUSICALLY as well. People say these songs sound like each other, which really isn t true. There is a consistent flow, however the songs are actually meant to blend into each other. For example, in one case there is a guitar riff that ever so subtly FORESHADOWS the main riff theme for the next song. The guitars riff with and against each other through wavy polyrhythmic drum patterns that go from balls out blast beats, to jazzy break progressions. Johnny Davys growls pummel you with incredibly well written lyrics telling a story about the rise of the anti-Christ in a post 9/11 world. If you notice, I speak very highly of this album but have not given it a 5 star rating, that is because this is only the bands first LP and considering their progression from Doom I am certain their next album will only be all the more amazing and more deserving of the full 5 stars.

What was that!?. - Job For A Cowboy maybe a heavy and brutal death metal group but they manage to sound as dull and generic as ever. The problem with this album is that there is no progression within the music most of the tracks just sound the same with no structure and the musicianship was quite bad not to mention vocalist Jonny Davy s screams were annoying, if these guys waited a bit longer to develop their skills then maybe they would have turned out better, these songs just sound dull and the guitar playing was all over the place it definitely sounded like a mess. Job For A Cowboy made a large impact on today s underground metal scene in a short amount of time and that was due to their Myspace page but that doesn t mean that there any good, the hype might have something to do with it cause I was not impressed by this awful album. It was way too repetitive and none of the tracks stood out, except for Martyrdom Unleashed which was probably the only track I liked and that wasn t even good just mediocre, anyway I don t wanna waste my time complaining about this album so I ll just say this, if you want a proper death metal group then you won t find it here but if you want a generic and corny metal group then you might like this. It s better it you get some decent death metal music from Nile or Hate Eternal and avoid this horrible mess.

Meh - There s not a whole lot about this album that hasn t been done a million times before and a million times better. The songwriting is just lackluster, 2-minute bursts of noise with no real direction or enthusiasm. The vocals are incredibly generic. Not to mention the album is only about as long as an EP, and two of the songs are basically instrumental filler. This band s really overhyped, and they fail to deliver on this album. If you want death metal done well, stick to things like Vader or Gorguts. Leave this garbage to the scene kids.

Overhyped? I agree. COMPLETELY! - Found out these guys were touring with In Flames here in 08, so I checked out their myspace. My first instinct was meh. The music COULD be good... but the monotonic vocalist kills this band. A few songs had a nod to Nile with a slight tinge of the Egyptians in the beginning... but they very rapidly dropped the ball rolling down the hill in a charnel house worse than your best Cannibal Corpse (another bad band). Every song has machine-gun riffing, with a machine-gun vocalization that DOES NOT STOP--EVER.Fast forward to the IF show: Their live show is just as bland as their recordings, with nothing but a machine-gun drum with machine-gun guitar and machine-gun vocals... I could have enjoyed some of the songs, actually. Their old material had more technicality to it: ruined by the once started I never stop vocals that just tear the whole beast down.If this is your FIRST death metal band... Compare them to these bands:ArsisHypocrisyAll Shall PerishCarcass(Any) In Flames(Any) Dark TranquillityAnd discover in short order why I have no respect for these ambitious upstarts from AZ.For the record--their artwork on every album IS killer, they have awesome t-shirts (and they re good at selling those t-shirts, buy kiddies buy!) But if you have awesome artwork you really have to bring something to the table that at least MATCHES it.These guys...DO NOT.

? - I wonder why people hate this band. I know they are not the best band out there though. This is the only album I heard from Job For A Cowboy. When I listen to the album I think Its a good album just not great. I listen to this band because while it can improve, for some reason I just think that there is a promise that they could get better once they figure out what sound they want and with more experience. I admit that there is better bands out there but If you want more Death Metal and have all the other great albums from other bands than you could check it out.
